How To Change Display Resolution
in Windows® 95/98

Overview

This page shows the steps for changing the display resolution in Window® 95/98. You can also find the instructions in Windows Help.

To summarize, the steps are:

  1. Click the Start button, then Settings, then Control Panel
  2. Double-click on the Display icon to open the Display Properties window
  3. Click on the Settings tab near the top right
  4. Click and drag to move the slider (in Screen area box) to the desired screen resolution. Then, click the Apply button at bottom right.
  5. Windows will ask you to confirm that you want to change the screen resolution. Click OK. If a problem occurs or the screen looks strange, wait 15 seconds and the original settings will be restored.
  6. If you want to keep the new settings, click OK when asked. Then click OK to close the Display Properties window.

Step-by-Step Directions

Click Start > Help to get the Help Topics window. Then type "display" (without the quotes). Double-click on "resolution" and click the Display button. Choose "To change the size of the screen area" and click the Display button.
